By having a two position lock the user can chose to lock the opening so the blade jaw only opens up part way so they do not have to constantly grab the handle with the tips of their fingers to make the cut. This is a nice feature since a good percentage of the time you are not cutting large material that would require the jaw to be fully open. This makes it easier on the hands because it takes less pressure to perform the cut. The handle on the K-0600 also is designed to better fit ones hand with a handle design that allows the hand to grip the pruner properly and not allow the hand to slide forward. The K-0650 has a lower handle that rotates to allow the grip to be positive even when the direction of the cut changes.
